My Testimony

My parents said that we were Christians because we had been baptized as babies. We went once a year to the church and that was for Christmas. We never spoke about God at home. My grandparents worked at a church, but they were also not saved and I never heard a word about God from them. But I got saved, and I grew in God. My first contact with Christians came through my friend. I wanted to learn how to play the guitar, and I knew my friend had learned without paying anything. My parents didn't allow me to learn to play the guitar because that was too expensive. When they heard that I could learn it for free, it was okay with them. So I went to that group and found out that they learned only for 10 minutes how to play the guitar and the rest of the time they spoke about God. At first I didn't like the stories about God, but after some time I loved them. And so I went every Monday to the meetings and also on other days, if there was a Christian concert or a crusade because my Christian friends invited me.

That crusade in 1983 was not much different than the others, but it was going to be the most important one for me. The preacher was old and the way he spoke was really not special, but I liked the atmosphere. I went every evening for almost one week. On Wednesday it was the last evening and I knew that my father wouldn't allow me to go there again. Because on Wednesdays we had our sports trainings and my father was the trainer. I didn't know what to do, and so I prayed my first time. I told God that I really wanted to go to that meeting again and if he was real, he should let me go again. I stopped and thought that I had to promise God something so that he would do it and so I said, that I maybe would get saved then. When I asked my father if I could go again he had nothing against it. So I went that evening again and was happy that I could have this nice atmosphere again. I forgot completely what I had prayed that evening before. But when I sat down, the prayer came back in my mind and so the atmosphere was spoiled for the whole evening. Just 2 things were going round in my mind - You promised you would give your life to God. But what will your friends and your family say?- . I couldn't even hear what the preacher was saying. The first time I was aware of the preacher, was when he said: "And if you want to get saved today, raise your hand." I raised my hand and heard the preacher saying: "These people who raised their hands should come in front after the service."

After the service I went in front and the preacher explained the gospel again. Then he was praying and all who wanted to could pray with him. After that prayer, I knew that my whole live had changed. I felt that God had removed all my sins and that I had eternal live. I told my Christian friends that I got saved. I was so happy. But I know that my parents wouldn't be happy. So I decided not to tell them. I was sure that they were still at the gym for the training and so I could just disappear in my room and nobody would know that something had happened. When I came home, I was so shocked, because my mother was at home and was cleaning the floor. When she saw me she said: "What has happened to you?" I don't know what she saw, but I told her everything without realizing that I didn't wanted to tell her. When I finished, it was to late to change what I said. The next day my whole family knew what had happened and my father was, very angry. He told me that I could never go again to that group. I stayed at home and only when my mother allowed it, I went. I also 1ost all of my friends because I became a Christian. I had just my bible and some parts I even couldn't understand, but I grew in God. For God everything is possible and when I look back, I can say that now I have more friends and this friendships are more deeply and honest then the one I had.

First Term

Since April 2003 I was working in Kitale Kenya. Together with a good Kenyan team I worked among the street children and Orphans in that area. Kitale town is in the western part of Kenya, near the Uganda border. The Kenyan team is now working with the streetchildren and orphans allown (since 2007).

In 2008 my place of work changed and I am now going to work in Dodoma (Tanzania) with streetchildren.
